The EU could “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it calls “unjustified” visa bans issued by the US on five European individuals involved in fighting digital hatred and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.
EU Officials Condemn US Move as ‘Intimidation’
Officials from Europe including Emmanuel Macron charged the US administration of “bullying and threats”, following the visa restrictions targeted individuals who have been central to efforts to introduce laws regulating US-based technology firms.
“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to coerce American platforms to punish US perspectives they oppose,” stated the US secretary of state online. “This government will no longer tolerate such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”
