The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and introducing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is what Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
